Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARTIN JOSEPH WEITEN June 10, 1925 - November 13, 2016 On November 13, 2016, Martin Joseph Weiten passed away peacefully surrounded by family at Moog and Friends Hospice in Penticton, BC at age 91. Marty will be missed by his loving wife of 65 years, Adrienne, and his six children, Louise Maurakis, Ron (Kim), Val (Benoit Lépine), Jan (Howard Mitchell), Jim (Melodie), and Rob (Joan) and dear friends Andy Maurakis and Linda Olson. He was predeceased by his two sisters, Amelie Austin and Helen Wanamaker. He is also survived by his brother, James Weiten. Grandpa really loved his grandchildren - David, Adrienne, Natalie, Zachary, Brie, Donavan, Kate, Sophie, Dexter - and their partners. He was delighted with his great-grandchildren, Elise, Nixon, Harley and Ella. He truly cherished his time and recent visits with them all. He will be missed by all of us and his extended family, including the Van Humbecks, of Manitoba, BC, and across Canada. On June 10, 1925, Marty was born to Margaret and Michael Weiten, in Alma, Quebec, near Montréal. The family had recently emigrated from Luxembourg. When Marty was an infant, his family moved to Makinak, MB where he and his three siblings grew up. After proudly serving in the Second World War in the RCAF, Marty married Adrienne Van Humbeck on May 19, 1951, in Laurier, MB. During their lives together, Marty, Adrienne and the kids were posted to many Air Force bases across Canada. In 1974, Marty retired from the Armed Forces. During his early "retirement" years in Yorkton, Saskatchewan, Marty began a second career as an educator with the community college and as Head Instructor for the Electrical Apprenticeship Program with the Sask. Technical Institute. He also started his own business, "Marty's Electric". In 1984, Marty and Adrienne journeyed to Western Samoa with Volunteer International Christian Services where they taught in a girls' school. This stay was brief but memorable. In his later years, Marty worked hard to complete his autobiography, My Long Road Home that he generously shared with family and close friends. Dad will be remembered for bursting into song at a moment's notice, his entertaining stories and his myriad of "Marty-isms." Funeral service to be held at St. Ann's Catholic Church, 1296 Main St., Penticton BC, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016. As an expression of sympathy, donations to Moog and Friends Hospice Society in Penticton or a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated. "So long it's been good to know you." We love you and we'll miss you, Dad! Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.everdenrust.com Everden Rust Funeral Services, Penticton, BC, in care of arrangements.
